The pithi ceremony is a very special ritual performed for good luck. The bride and groom have separate pithi ceremonies with their respective families, and I was privileged to photography Trusha’s beautiful Pithi ceremony (this took place the morning after her Mendhi Night). Pithi is a paste made mainly of turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water. Family members and friends of the bride apply the paste on the bride skin. This yellow paste is thought to brighten and even the skin tone. The Pithi ceremony is a celebration of love and happiness for one who is being married.
Prior to the Pithi ceremony, a prayer and other rituals are performed at the bride’s home, with her closest family. It was a lovely morning spent with Trusha and her family, and it truly was an honour to witness such an important ritual leading up to the big day.
